24 Songs From Under The Floorboards

32 minutes with David Gedge from The Wedding Present
6

The Wedding Present have a new album out next month, on May 19th, and it’s a collection of all the double A sided 7” singles they released in each month of 2022. It’s called, fittingly, 24 Songs, and it’s a nod to the now classic Hit Parade releases of 1992/1993. There are some great songs on there; my favourites being the aching ‘The Loneliest Time Of Year’ (I do so love it when the band get to stretch out), the resurrected lost Sleeper song ‘We Should Be Together’, and a brilliant Weddos take on one of my favourite ever songs, Magazine’s ‘Song From Under The Floorboards’.

Yesterday I got to spent a little bit of time with David Gedge to talk about said record - and a whole lot more besides. It was a joy to spend 32 minutes with one of my favourite ever songwriters. I present it above for your viewing entertainment! Or, if you’d prefer to watch on YouTube, then head to the Spoook YouTube channel here. I welcome subscriptions! There is a blackboard in my office with the title ‘Spoook’s global domination plan’ that lists ‘grow YouTube subscribers’ on it as item four, so please do that. And I’ll have the audio on the podcast feed… at some point!

Before I go, did you enjoy yesterday’s story about the dude I met in the pub who thinks a panther lurks in Epping Forest? Spoook sub David did. The plot thickens!

Enjoy Thursday! Be safe out there!
